Optimization of usability and human-machine interface of the FVIEW supervisor.

Funitek is a company specialized in the design and construction of ski lifts such as: cable cars, automatic clamping systems, fixed clamping systems, ski lifts. The plants are managed and monitored by a centralized supervision system which controls their correct operation in real time.

The supervisor user was at the center of the project curated by the Rawfish Design team. The scope of the project was to obtain a completely restructured interface in terms of hierarchical structure of the displayed data, usability and user experience as well as a restyling of the graphic interface.

Operator and operating context.The user is at the heart of the project.

The approach we apply to Human Machine Interface projects is the Design Shaping Program. The DSP focuses on the user and the environment in which the HMI operates. This allows to contextualize the operator / interface interaction.

It starts from a process of user and context analysis to get to produce the first graphic prototype in close collaboration with the customer through iterative cycles.

This survey returns a series of qualitative and quantitative data, fundamental for sharing with the team and the Customer the choices that will characterize the new interface of the supervisors.

We have carried out various inspections of different plants. The aim was to detect some qualitative data such as: the position of the supervisor with respect to the system, the brightness (natural or artificial) present in the control pulpits, the workstation and the average point of view of the operators with respect to the supervisor, the interaction with the interface (touch screen or mouse).

Analysis and interviews with operators.

The interviews involved both expert and non-expert operators. Therefore we received the most heterogeneous and complete report possible on the work routine and on the habits settled in operating through the interface.

The user’s activities and behavior have been recorded and documented. The results emerged and once reworked they were fundamental for the drafting of the new content hierarchy.

Emergence of weakness points.

The data analyzed have concretely revealed various weaknesses. Different interface versions installed, difficulty in reading and interpreting system states, little understanding of the hierarchy of information, little familiarity with the arrangement of contents and navigation between sections, page templates confused due to the high amount of information present . Poor contrast between textual information and page background.

Definition of the new user interface.Design Guideline.

The new supervisor was designed based on the new atomic design system. The modular elements of which it is made up determine its added value: the guarantee of always presenting consistent navigation patterns, allowing the user to read data and information in a clear, organized and uninterpretable way. The rigorous but captivating UI has helped make the product pleasant to use on a daily basis.

Light & Dark mode through AB testing

The light and dark mode versions of the interface went through an AB test to determine which end users found them more accessible. The dark version was preferred both for a better response to the average ambient brightness during the operators' activity, and for greater graphic appeal and stylistic continuity with previous versions of the HMI.

Advertising Campaign.

For the launch campaign of FVIEW, we created several declinations for the sector magazines.

FVIEW Logo Design

We were also responsible for the branding of the FVIEW . A simple and straight brand image has been created. The font used for the logo is a Sans Serif Italic to give a decisive, elegant and dynamic appearance.
